L'Entente Cordiale Posted: June 2017

French Branch of Chaps

I’m pleased to announce that, contrary to current political events, CHAPS has successfully negotiated a partnership agreement with the Institut Français du Cheval et de l’Equitation (l’IFCE) in France, creating a new ‘entente cordiale’ between the two countries.  This will enable coloured horses and ponies born in France, and which meet CHAPS’ criteria, to be registered with CHAPS in the UK and to have existing passports over-stamped, or in the case of foals and those without passports, to apply for CHAPS passports.

This has been a long and sometimes complex process that was begun before Britain’s Brexit referendum.  Both parties recognise that the exact terms of the agreement may be subject to change, depending on how Defra responds to Britain’s exit from the EU with regard to the issuing of horse passports, but we are confident that with a strong will to make things work on both sides of the channel, the collaboration with the IFCE will continue in the years ahead.

For the time being, and until numbers in France warrant the creation of additional website services, the service offered in France is being made available via a Facebook page, where information and application forms for owners and breeders will be provided in French.  The resources necessary to create the forms and the page are being kindly provided by Elektra Media Ltd at no cost to CHAPS, and I would like to thank Abbie Hurst for taking time out of her busy work to create some super designs to represent CHAPS France.

I will provide updates from time to time depending on how things develop and how many owners come forward to register horses with CHAPS.  In the meantime, if you do happen to know anyone with horses in France, please help to spread the word and share the Facebook page and email details, and don’t hesitate to email me on the address below if you have any questions, suggestions or comments.

Au’revoir et à bientôt, Linzy Dickinson

CHAPS UK Championship Show

2018 Show Full Schedule To follow
2018 Entry Form To follow

"The CHAPS(UK) Board of Directors have been monitoring the mood of both our members and non-members since the announcement from Grandstand Media that the Coloured HOYS qualifiers and finals are to be opened to TSR and TGCA. As our dear members that have already supported us by re-joining for the 2017 season could not have been notified beforehand, and indeed all of our renewal forms had already been printed and circulated, we have now drawn up the following:

CHAPS(UK) will continue to sponsor the Coloured Horse and Pony HOYS finals for 2017. The finals will bear our banner. The qualifiers will state that the finals are entitled "The Coloured Horse & Pony Society (UK) Coloured Horse of the Year".

A new membership category is to be introduced IMMEDIATELY for HOYS competitors only. The membership is exactly what it says: this type of membership will have no frills no journal, no Championship Show qualifier card, no Handbook (to be downloaded from website). It is purely for HOYS entry. The price of this membership is levied at 20 across the board, inclusive of VAT at the current rate

For all those that were caught in the interim period between renewing and the announcement we offer the following choice:
Reimbursement of the 20 HOYS competition number
Reimbursement of the difference between the membership fee you have paid and the new HOYS category fee of 20. Any qualifier card issued MUST be revoked, and you will receive no further journals
You can choose to donate any reimbursements into the CHAPS HOYS sponsorship pot

We will add the new HOYS category to the on-line membership application form, but anyone using hard copy, please just make clear on the form that this is the category you require. All those that have already paid, there will be a form included in the next World of Colour due out in February for you to complete and confirm whether you wish to donate or receive a reimbursement. As a way of thanking you, it has also been agreed that no joining fee/late renewal fee will be charged for 2017 memberships.

So, once again we have listened! We can only apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, We hope you all understand and look forward to another great season with our coloured equines"

Grandstand Online Entries System Introduces User ID numbers Posted: 22 March 2013

Launched in 2010, the Grandstand Online Entries System is a fully comprehensive data system, designed for the equestrian event industry. Horse of the Year Show, "The World's Most Famous Horse Show", has used the system from the outset and it now holds details of every rider, owner, exhibitor and equine that has competed at a qualifier, since 2011.

Used by show secretaries and competitors alike, users can log on to the system to update horse and rider details, process entries and organise stabling and the purchase of passes for the show itself.

There are now over 9,000 exhibitors, riders and owners, and over 8,000 equines, registered on the system. It is these vast and increasing numbers, which have brought about the next important development for the Grandstand Online Entries System.

From March 2013, for everyone currently registered on the system, and for those who register in the future, a unique user ID number will be automatically generated. It is important that every rider, owner, exhibitor and equine is registered on the system only once and hence has only one ID number, which will be required on all documentation including entry forms for qualifying shows.

The introduction of user ID numbers will avoid duplication of data and ensure accuracy; this is essential both for entries and for the compiling of league tables for the Horse of the Year Show Awards series, which is now in its second year.

For show secretaries of qualifying shows, it will make the process of relaying competitor information and results to Horse of the Year Show's Equestrian Department, a much more efficient and reliable one.

The development will also benefit the exhibitors themselves, ensuring that their data is accurate and up-to-date so that they will not miss out on important announcements during the year.

PAC - Paint Alternative Competition (programme) Posted: 11 March 2013

CHAPS, in conjunction with the UK Paint Horse Association are pleased to offer their members who own registered American Paint Horses an opportunity to earn PAC performance credits for their horses when showing at CHAPS events. The performance credits are based on the placing and number of horses in the class and are added to your horses life time performance record held with the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) which in turn can add to the value of your horse.

Recognition for your success
A Certificate of Recognition is awarded to your registered Paint Horse when it earns at least 20 credits in any one approved category. A Certificate of Achievement is awarded when that horse earns 60 or more credits in any one approved category. PAC Year-End Leaders who earn the most points in one category will receive a Gist belt buckle and recognition in the Paint Horse Journal. Six PAC Top Five awards go to the top five horses earning the most credits in at least six different categories. The title of Six PAC Champion is awarded to any horse that wins at least six different categories on the PAC Leader's List in a single year.

Forms can be downloaded from here and more information from

As of 7th June, 2011, CHAPS(UK) has introduced a Fast Track system, whereby the applicant can pay an extra fee of 50.00 inclusive of VAT for a guaranteed 48-hour (working days) turnaround. This fee is in addition to the membership/registration fees. This system will only apply to instant payments, and is totally dependent on the office being open. The Admin office is closed weekends, bank holidays and public holidays, as well as for attendance at various meetings, functions and, of course, personal holidays. So, if using Fast Track, checks must be made to make sure that the office is open there is no point in applying if the office is closed. This sounds a bit cumbersome, but it is the precise reason why the notifications are given on each and every application form: to allow for times when the Admin office is not open. Acceptance of applications will also be dependent on the forms being completed correctly in full, and the correct fees forwarded.

Please note that due to a change in all of the banks' systems, CHAPS (UK) will ONLY ACCEPT CASH WHEN PAYING FOR ENTRIES ON THE DAY at all regional shows and the championship show.

NO CHEQUES WILL BE ACCEPTED ON SHOW DAYS WITHOUT EXCEPTION. Cheques will be accepted for pre-entries by close of entry date.
